Ditch Lacklustre Skin For A Luminous Glow

Behind dull, lacklustre skin is a fresh, shiny and healthy layer waiting to see the light of day! To reveal that fresh layer, we need to exfoliate the top surface of dead skin cells. But, let us explain that not all exfoliants are created to renew AND nurture your skin at the same time...

Exploring the types of exfoliators

Physical (mechanical) exfoliation - this method is where you scrub your face with a product that features physical particles (granules) to remove dead skin cells. When choosing a physical exfoliant, it’s crucial to ensure that it’s formulated with a gentle and rounded particle such as our soft Jojoba beads. Products that have non-spherical or large, harsh particles will damage your natural skin barrier and potentially cause small micro-tears.

Chemical exfoliation - this method allows gentle acids such as AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids), BHAs (beta hydroxy acids) or fruit enzymes to dissolve the dead skin cells… The word ‘acid’ in skincare can sound scary and not natural, but they are quite the opposite and when used correctly, this form of exfoliation delivers great results in a gentle way!

The benefits of triple-action exfoliating

To harness the unique powers of both physical and chemical exfoliants, we formulated our triple action Refining Face Polish:

Action 1
The AHA rich Lilly Pilly and gentle fruit acids dissolve dull surface build-up.

Action 2
Eco-friendly, soft rounded Jojoba beads refine the skin and reveal a smooth complexion.

Action 3
Soothing Kaolin clay draws out excess dirt, oil and impurities.

Plus, an added bonus is that freshly exfoliated skin allows your skincare products and makeup to absorb into the skin more effectively.

How to incorporate exfoliation into your skincare ritual

  1. Cleanse your skin before exfoliating, using your Radiance Cream Cleanser or Purifying Gel Cleanser

  2. Using a small amount of Refining Face Polish, gently massage it into your skin with circular motions. Allow the clay and fruit acids to penetrate into your skin for 2-3 minutes, and for a deeper exfoliation leave on for 5-10 minutes. Rinse with warm water.

  3. Gently pat your face dry and apply your serums and moisturiser to replenish hydration and retain the moisture in your skin.

A few tips on what to avoid when exfoliating

  1. Don’t use an exfoliator that has harsh abrasives, it’s so important to nurture your skin while renewing it. We carefully selected the Jojoba beads in our Refining Face Polish to ensure they remove the dead skin cells in a gentle way that nurtures the skin and supports the natural skin barrier.

  2. Don’t over exfoliate! Schedule your exfoliation ritual just 1-2 times per week, it’s important to give our skin the chance to regenerate and replace the dead skin cell that we’ve removed. Over-exfoliation can irritate and damage the skin.

  3. Don’t skip exfoliation! The longer your skin goes without removing the dead skin cells, the more lacklustre your skin will be. Shedding the old skin makes way for a luminous, healthy complexion.

Tip: For blemish-prone skin we suggest exfoliating with our Instant Glow Face Masque instead.
